Rob Amonic, M.D.

Robert Amonic, M.D., Foundation Board Secretary, has been in love with Mammoth Lakes for 65 years.

A graduate of UCLA, Dr. Amonic was a freshman medical student in Southern California when he first visited Mammoth Lakes in 1959 for a ski trip. That’s where he “fell in love with the mountain.” He started to make the trip up to Mammoth as much as he could manage as he also worked to establish his plastic surgery practice in Los Angeles.

Dr. Amonic loved Mammoth so much that he bought a cabin in 1975 and secured a part-time practice at Mammoth Hospital’s fledgling Sierra Park Clinic. Serving as a member of Mammoth Hospital’s medical staff cemented his relationship with Mammoth Lakes and its healthcare hub.

In 2013, then-CEO Gary Myers recruited Dr. Amonic to the Foundation Board to help ensure that high-quality healthcare would remain available in perpetuity to the residents and visitors of the Eastern Sierra, a place he loves so much. To this end, Dr. Amonic has also included the Foundation in his estate plan, which you can read about here.

“The caliber of Mammoth Hospital, especially in such a remote location, is just astounding,” Dr. Amonic says. “It’s exceptional.”

Dr. Amonic also serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of Saint John’s Health Center Foundation.
