Gifts Through Your Will or Living Trust
One of the simplest ways to make a gift is through your Will or Revocable Living Trust. These gifts provide critical support for the future of Mammoth Hospital and its mission – to promote the well-being and improve the health of our residents and guests.
Tax Savings
Bequests to The Mammoth Hospital Foundation are deductible from your gross estate and can therefore offer estate tax savings. There is no limit on the amount you can leave to charitable organizations through your Will.
Because of the complexity of estate planning, it is important that your attorney structure your estate and write your Will so as to best carry out your wishes. The Mammoth Hospital Foundation cannot act as executor of a donor’s estate.
Gifts Through Your Retirement Plan
You can ensure the health of the Eastern Sierra now and for future generations by making The Mammoth Hospital Foundation a full or partial beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified retirement plan. The taxes applied to your retirement plan assets are different than you imagined. In fact, using retirement assets to make your donation and leaving other assets to your heirs may be a tax-wise decision.
Planning Considerations to Discuss with Your Advisor
By designating the Mammoth Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary of retirement plan assets, your heirs may be able to avoid income taxes that might otherwise apply. As a nonprofit organization, Mammoth Hospital Foundation doesn’t pay income taxes on these distributions. You could then designate other assets for family members and other heirs. Because of the complexity of estate planning, it is important that you confer with your advisors on the best way to meet your long-term goals.
Funding Current Gifts
If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can make a tax-free distribution from your traditional or Roth IRA to the Mammoth Hospital Foundation. It’s a great way to support Mammoth Hospital’s work today.
