Sarah Rea, Foundation Coordinator

Foundation Coordinator Sarah Rea moved to the “big city” of Mammoth Lakes after almost a decade living and working in Yosemite National Park. “I was lured by the movie theater and the possibility that I could get a dog,” she says.

A graduate of the University of Southern California, Sarah spent a year working and traveling in New Zealand after college, and fell in love with hiking and rock climbing. She moved to Yosemite for one summer season but ended up working at the Ahwahnee Hotel and in the High Sierra Camps for years to come.

“I love the mountains but more than that I love the kinds of people who are drawn to the mountains,” says Sarah. “You encounter the most creative, passionate people in environments like Yosemite and Mammoth. It really takes a commitment to the lifestyle to live in a place like this.”

Before joining the Mammoth Hospital team, Sarah was a lift operator, worked on a boat, was a server, a cook, made wedding cakes, and worked for Mammoth’s local newspaper, among other jobs. “I’ve lived a lot of lives already.”

She was hired by former CEO Gary Myers as his assistant in 2018 and worked for current CEO Tom Parker for almost five years before joining the Foundation team in August 2023.

Sarah says her background in print journalism gave her great preparation for her role at the Foundation, where she gets to interview patients about their experiences and work to tell the story of why Mammoth Hospital is so important.

“I love this community so much and Mammoth Hospital has allowed me to live and thrive professionally in this incredible area,” says Sarah. “:I’m so honored to be a part of making sure our hospital is here for all of us and for future generations of Eastern Sierra residents and guests.”

In  her spare time, Sarah still enjoys rock climbing and hiking with her dog (who is now 12) and introducing her toddler son to the joys of the mountains.
